M50 PPP Upgade - River Dodder Bridges Widening
In order to facilitate widening of the M50 motorway around Dublin it was necessary to widen this pair of existing underbridges. We undertook detailed design of the widening and assessed the existing bridges for the revised live loading due to the amended carriageway arrangement. Precast parapet edge beams and cantilever were adopted in order to minimise the falsework needed over the river in order to construct the widened section of bridge. Some strengthening of the shear connection between the existing beams and the deck slab was also implemented close to the abutments.
