M50 PPP Upgrade - Structure S13-N3

We undertook detailed design of this 110m long, 2-span composite box girder bridge deck.  The geometry was extremely complex as the structure was located on a highway transition curve with varying crossfall.  Our design included substantial plan bracing of the boxes for the temporary condition before construction of the concrete slab.  In addition an innovative full depth precast concrete deck system was was used to minimise the lane occupation time needed for construction of the bridge.  By maximising off-site construction techniques we were able to minimise the time taken to build this structure.  Give the very tight working space adjacent to live traffic this had significant advantages for our contractor client.
