Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of Meghna & Gumti Bridges
These two bridges form key links over major rivers on the main highway between Dhaka and Chittagong. They were constructed in the late 90's but had suffered from heavy traffic usage leading to hinge joint deterioration. In addition since they were designed Bangladesh has increased its seismic design requirements threefold.
We undertook seismic assessment of the two bridges to the new local seismic design requirements and made recommendations for retrofitting works for elements found to be deficient. In addition we designed remedial works to the defective mid-span hinge bearings and joints.
