A13 River Lea Bridge Replacement
The ‘Iron Bridge’ was built in the 1930s and currently carries two carriageways each with three lanes. The bridge is of steel-concrete construction with the deck supported by 16 riveted steel arch ribs.
In partnership with TPS Consult, Hewson were tasked with developing replacement solutions for the structure while maintaining traffic flows. The proximity of the river, two further bridges either side of the one under consideration and the East India Dock tunnel present a series of significant complications to the study. We were able to apply our extensive experience in highway and other infrastructure projects to develop a range of schemes for the client as well as estimates for each solution.
