Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
December 2011
2011 turned out to be an eventful year, starting with us scooping the inaugural NCE/ACE Small Consultant of the Year Award and finishing with some exciting tenders and projects in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Ireland and Scotland. Along the way our team grew and we expanded our office onto the floor below, which had the added benefit of additional parking spaces! Winning the award was great recognition of the expanding range and scale of our projects, as well as the dedication and commitment of our staff.
In this past year we have again been very busy on many challenging projects both at home and overseas. Some sections of the 20km precast segmental viaduct for the Klang Valley in Malaysia were designed in under 3 months; thus introducing some of our newer team members to the concept of 'fast-track' design!! This certainly could not have been achieved without the coordination team that we sent to work with our client in Kuala Lumpur. Nearer to home, we have completed the civil and structural design works for a marina, prepared designs for a number of bridges (plus an eel trap!) and undertaken a number of temporary works commissions on the Crossrail and Thameslink projects. One other notable achievement this year has been the progress made in the detailed design of three major cable suspended bridges in Nigeria which we expect to move into the construction tendering phase during the next 12 months.
In the office we welcomed several graduates and senior engineers into our team to help us with our growing workload. Over the summer months we also managed to keep four university students busy and several school students gained work experience with us through the year.
We hope that you have had an exciting and successful year and that you are ready for challenges that lie around the corner in 2012.
Hewson wins NCE/ACE Small Consultant of the Year Award
March 30, 2011
We are delighted to have won the UK Small Consultant of the Year Award 2011 from the NCE and ACE. As they classify "small" as anything up to 150 people we are particularly proud of this achievement. The award has recognised the great team we have and range of projects that we are currently doing and have completed over the last few years. One of eight shortlisted companies, the award covered all civil engineering consultants in the UK with tremendous competition from across a broad spectra of the industry.
Hewson designing Niger Delta long span bridges
January 18, 2011
We are carrying out the detailed design of three long span bridges in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, including one suspension bridge and two cable stayed bridges. The suspension bridge has a min span of 1500m and a total unsupported length of deck of 2800m making it the longest continuous cable supported bridge in the world and the 4th largest main span once built. The two cable stayed bridges have a main span of 700m and 350m respectively, with the first one ranking as the 10th longest main span once built. Full details of these projects are now on the website.
